At Ohio State, Dr. Hamzeh was one of the main supervisors in the dental clinic, where students would work alongside of her. Additionally, while at OSU, Dr. Hamzeh participated in the dental school’s biopsy service to diagnose any oral abnormality or cancerous tumors.

Dr. Hamzeh is passionate about continuing her education in all fields of dentistry. Most recently, Dr. Hamzeh acquired her certificate from the American Academy of Facial Aesthetics. Allowing her to provide botox and filler services to her patients, where she has been able use these skills to develop new ways to help with migraines and jaw clenching.

While practicing Dr. Hamzeh has become deeply involved in the dental community where she is a member of:

Periodontal Treatment

If after an exam it is determined that you are showing signs of gum disease you may need a different type of cleaning, called scaling and root planing, or deep cleaning. Symptoms that the dentist and hygienist are looking for are, bad breath, heavy plaque and calculus build up, and pocket depths over 4mm. With healthy gums the tissues attaches firmly to the tooth and the space between the tissue and the tooth should be 1-3mm in depth; this is referred to as the pocket depth.

Root Canals

A root canal is performed when the nerve of the tooth is diseased due to decay, infection, or as result of trauma to the tooth. The nerve which is the live tissue inside the tooth is removed and the space is filled with special dental material. The tooth after a root canal is very brittle and has to be crowned to protect it from breaking and having to be pulled. When a tooth needs a root canal it is usually; very sensitive to hot and cold, prone to having severe aching, or has an abscess underneath. Occasionally a tooth is symptom free. Root canals are very successful treatment; only on rare occasions will a tooth be re-treated.

Snoring and Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea is the failure to breathe while you sleep. Obstructive sleep apnea is the most common type of apnea. In this form of the disease, the airway collapses, cutting off airflow to the lungs . A partial airway obstruction causes the upper airway tissues to vibrate and produce the sound of the classic snore. About 30 million Americans have undiagnosed sleep apnea.

Oral appliance therapy (OAT) is a treatment for obstructive sleep apnea and an effective alternative treatment to CPAP. Administered by a dentist, oral appliance therapy uses a custom-fit “mouth guard-like” device worn only during sleep to maintain an open, unobstructed airway.

Botox

Botox® (also known as Botulinum Toxin) is an FDA approved protein that is injected into the muscles that will temporarily block nerve singles resulting in a relaxed muscle. This reduces the look of fine lines and wrinkles. Treatments take only minutes and results are seen in two to ten days. Results last three to four months before retreatment is needed. Botox can provide other benefits in addition to cosmetic procedures.

  • Grinding and clenching (bruxism): Millions of people find that they clench or grind their teeth. When other treatment options don’t provide enough relief, Botox can be injected into the jaw muscles to relax them.
  • TMD pain and Migraines: TMD stands for temporomandibular joint disorder. This disorder can result in significant pain and damage to teeth. Botox injections are safe and effective in treating TMD.
  • Cosmetic: Botox is used to treat areas of the face that have fine lines and wrinkles.

Dental Implant

There are many reasons you may have a missing tooth, from injury to tooth decay. Many patients are concerned with how their smile looks when they have a missing tooth, but theres more to it then that. The adjacent teeth can shift changing your bite and closing the space where the missing tooth was. The best treatment today for missing teeth is a dental implant. Unlike a bridge, placing an implant does not impact the surrounding teeth. An oral surgeon places a post in the bone, then the patient goes back to their dentist for the crown. With proper dental hygiene implants can last a lifetime.

Partials and Dentures

Removable dental appliances fabricated to replace missing teeth to help patient with chewing, speech and facial aesthetics. Partial dentures replace some missing teeth while dentures replace all teeth and surrounding tissue in the mouth. Partial and denture materials vary between conventional (metal with plastic), all plastic, flexible partials that have no metal, are very thin, and are aesthetically pleasing, and fabricating a partial or denture takes several appointments to make sure size, shape, shade of teeth, and fit of the appliance is good.

Bite Guards

A bite guard is prescribed when the dentist notices signs of teeth clenching, grinding or the patient is showing symptoms of TMJ problems. We take impressions of your teeth and make a custom hard bite guard, also called bite splint, that you wear at night to protect your teeth.

Fillers

Juvaderm® is a gel like substance that is injected under the skin to create a more full appearance. Unlike Botox, filler results are noticeable immediately.  Common areas that are treated with fillers are the parentheses around the mouth, and the lips. The results are subtle and can last up to 6 months. Every patients needs are different which is why we always offer free consultations for Botox and fillers. Contact us today to get started!

Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth (third molars) have to be checked to find out whether there is enough space in jaw bone to accommodate them. A special type of X-ray, a Panoramic X-ray, is taken of the patient to evaluate his/her wisdom teeth.
