What can you expect during the procedure?
Deep cleanings may be done by the hygienist or the doctor and may take more than one appointment to complete. Most times a topical anesthetic is applied to the gums to minimize any discomfort during the procedure. The operator will remove all the plaque, stain and calculus above the below the gum. They will perform root planing involves smoothing the root surface of the tooth which helps the gum to heal and attach more firmly. After the treatment it will be recommended that we see you in a month for a follow up, which is a much quicker appointment than the deep cleaning. We will then put you on a 3 or 4 month recall called periodontal maintenance which will keep your gum disease under control.
